6 Reasons to Go Into Franchising with Your Mom

Mother’s Day is coming up and that means your thoughts should be turning to your dear old spry young mother. Who better to open a franchising business with than the woman who brought you into the world and raised you to be the entrepreneurially-minded person you are today.

If you are still on the fence about whether to go into business with your mother, let us give you that extra little push with six reasons to open a franchise business with your mom.

1. You won’t have far to go for a hug when things get bad.

Running a business can be a bit of a roller coaster ride. One year you’re on top of the world and the next you have hit a slump. That’s when you need a squeeze from your mom to tell you that everything is going to be okay. When you go into business with your mom, you need not go far for that reassuring embrace. You can just walk into her office. (Naturally, you’re going to give her the bigger office, right?)

2. You’ll still be able to get some home cooking.

Everyone loves comfort food and for many of us, the best comfort food is mom’s home cooking. If you promise to take on some extra work at the business, you may be able to free up some of your mom’s time to make one of your favourite meals from when you were a kid. (Just make sure you’re on your best behaviour so you actually deserve it.)

3. Sick days will be more tolerable.

You’re bound to become ill at some point while running your business. And, as we know from when we are kids, it’s mom to the rescue when you are feeling under the weather. Sure, she’ll have a business to run, but she’ll be able to find some time to bring you some hot soup and medicine. (Moms have those special time-bending powers that allow them to do that even when they’re super busy.)

4. Your mom can bring a wealth of experience to the partnership.

Sure, you’ve learned a lot throughout your life, but your mom has been through it all and has a lot of wisdom to share with you as you strive to get your franchise up and running. Think of all the years of experience your mom has that she can share with you. The parenting experience alone will be worth having your mom as part of the business, as she’ll have plenty of knowledge about dealing with problem employees. (That comes from having to raise you.)

5. Your mom can put up a charm offensive to help you with negotiations.

Everyone loves a mom! Just when you’re facing down a tough negotiator, you can have your mom swoop in and be her charming, disarming self to help your business get what it needs without giving up too much. Maybe cookie diplomacy would help or how about some pie politics?

6. Birthdays and holidays would be so much more special at work.

You just know your mom is going to make your birthday special if she’s around. And, likewise, it will be easier to make her birthday special, too. There would be no need to take too much time away from work to plan a party or bake a cake. Since you’ll both be at the business, you can have it there. In fact, any holiday would be so much easier to organize with your mom already being in the same place you are.

And the best holiday of all to celebrate with your franchising partner mom? Mother’s Day, of course!

To all the moms who are running a franchise business (whether or not it’s with your kids), happy Mother’s Day!
